Until
now there was little that doctors could do about
compression fractures. Patients were usually treated
with strong pain medicine and bed rest. But now
there is a new treatment that:
- Does
away with most or all pain in up to 90 percent
of patients
-
May prevent worsening of old spinal breaks
-
Is cost-effective
- Has
a short recovery time
-
Improves the quality of life
Who
will perform the treatment?
An
interventional radiologist performs the Percutaneous
Vertebroplasty. The interventional radiologist is
a medical doctor trained to diagnose and treat certain
diseases using patient x-rays and other diagnostic
image.
What
to expect before the treatment?
The
interventional radiologist reviews your imaging
(x-ray) studies and then, a few days before the
procedure, meets with you to discuss the procedure
and looks closely at the effected vertebra using
special imaging equipment.
